September 2017 News
Our Annual Terry Fox Walk and Roll will be held Thursday Sept. 7th, starting at 9:30 am.
A pledge board has been set up in the home’s front lobby. All residents who have had a minimum $2.00 pledge donated will be escorted on the 1/3 of a mile walk around the outside of our home. Residents may be sponsored more than once and our goal is to have all 103 residents participate in the walk for cancer research. Please bring donations over $20.00 to the Activation Office so you may have a tax receipt sent to you. We are also looking for volunteers to assist with escorting residents that morning. There will be refreshments for all participants. This is a great opportunity for our residents to remain active in their community, support a great cause and get some fresh air. Should the weather not cooperate, we will complete the walk indoors. All money raised from this event will go to the Terry Fox Foundation for cancer research.
A big Thank You goes out to our local Knights of Columbus for sponsoring a BBQ that was held at Mitchell’s Bay on Aug. 25th. We had 25 residents from Fairfield Park and 25 residents from Sydenham Residence attend. A great time was had by all!
We also appreciate and enjoyed the Dream Cruise from WAMBO. The residents were thrilled to see the old cars, as well as the fire trucks the next afternoon.
Residents will also enjoy a Shut-in-Mass and Luncheon at Holy Family Church on September 22nd.
There is a clothing rack in our west side activity room with several items of clothing that have not been labelled. Please have a look when in visiting your family member to see if you recognize any of these items.
Internet service is available in our home only for business purposes and not personal use. However, “mobile” hubs/units may be available from internet service providers. It is up to the resident to contact service providers directly for availability and fees.
Many residents are utilizing our driveway to enjoy the outdoors and go for walks. Be VERY CAREFUL when you are backing out of your parking spot, as residents can be hard to see if they are coming up in a wheelchair or partially blocked by a parked vehicle.
Geri Fashions will be here on Thursday October 19th. Their mobile units travel all over Southwestern Ontario, setting up day boutiques for residents and families to shop.
Besides stylish up-to-date regular clothing, Geri Fashions is famous for “open back” and “special needs clothing” for those who are not ambulatory. All are easy care and convenient for the resident and staff alike. The Activity Department will also have a Harvest Soup and Sandwich Buffet that day, so you can enjoy lunch and shopping with your family member. The cost is only $6.00 and profits from this luncheon will go to our Volunteers. Lunch includes your choice of soup, sandwich, dessert and a beverage.
Please find enclosed the consent form for the Flu Vaccine. Please return to the home by September 11, 2017.
